Tips for Biking, Walking or Blading on Trails
-
Show courtesy to all other trail users.
-
Observe trail restrictions and hours.
-
Use the right side of the trail unless designated otherwise.
-
Give an audible warning when passing others on the trail. Announce your intentions by saying, “Passing on your left.” Pass only when it is safe and when there is enough room.
-
Listen for audible signals and allow faster trail users to safely pass.
-
Be alert to your location and tell someone of your planned route and times you’ll be out.
-
Watch the weather! If you see lightning, leave the trail and find shelter.
-
Respect the rights of property owners.
-
Keep dogs on a leash and remove all pet feces.
-
Wear bright or fluorescent clothing during the day and retro-reflective clothing at dusk. Carry a flashlight when walking at dusk. Avoid trails at night as most are unlit.
-
Carry plenty of water with to stay hydrated.
