Essential Functions

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Perform Safety surveys and inspections; prepare written reports of findings and recommendations for preventive measures. Active hands-on follow-up to ensure measures have been implemented.
  • Conscientiously listen to employees about their concerns and questions regarding safety issues, while providing positive feedback and timely follow-up.
  • Develop and maintain company “Safety Policy & Procedural Manuals” including evaluation of all current and proposed equipment, work processes, and all other Safety related factors affecting the work environment.
  • Administer company Safety policies throughout the Structural Fabrication and Service Center areas, including facility grounds.
  • Assist in the development, evaluation and upgrading of Safety Programs.
  • Oversee the Corporate Safety Committee agenda, promoting inclusion and “best in class” Safety practices.
  • Oversee Corporate Safety Training Programs based on Federal, State and Local requirements.
  • Prepare corporate monthly Safety-Toolbox meeting topics.
  • Facilitate Divisional Plant Safety audits, while documenting and managing all compliance objectives.
  • Promote 5-S Methodology for plant cleanliness and organization, including proper and safe storage of materials.
  • Conduct local Divisional Safety orientations with new hire employees.
  • Coordinate First Aid Responder and CPR certification requirements.
  • Maintain various safety and compliance related inspection records.
  • Assist and maintain environmental reports including EPA, Storm water permits, SPCC, etc.
  • Assist supervisors as needed with incident reports and investigations.
  • Maintain Safety Dashboard with monthly metrics broken out by Division: TRIR, DART, Severity.
  • Active leadership and administration of Emergency Response procedures within each Division as needed.

Expectations

  • Work with managers to educate employees on all General Industry OSHA compliance standards.
  • Investigate Safety incidents with the assistance of applicable management to identify root cause.
  • Conduct risk assessments by identifying and assessing the magnitude of risk (e.g., environmental, safety, regulatory)
  • Experience with OSHA, EPA compliance requirements and related local, state and federal regulations.
  • Build and develop relationships with peers to promote ongoing process improvement in the area of Risk Management.
  • Carry out duties in accordance with ISO standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year College or University.
  • CSP – Certificate.
  • Five years minimum related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Travel

Must be able to travel at least 15% of the time.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud at times. Environment is not fully climate controlled.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • This position reports to the Safety Manager for our Coatings Division and has no direct or indirect reports
  • This role requires up to 15% travel (internationally/domestically), including overnight stays
  • Support the division and underlying sites in achieving EHS targets and objectives
  • Support development, maintenance, and continuous improvement efforts of the management system to facilitate EHS strategic initiatives
  • Support the preparation of reports and dashboards of key EHS performance indicators to track leading and lagging indicators and supporting EHS information
  • Manage the incident alert and other data sharing activities to ensure effective and timely information dissemination
  • Work closely with subject matter experts and stakeholders to deliver quality instructional content for site use in the area of EHS
  • Work closely with subject matter experts and stakeholders to ensure programs and policies are effective and up to date in the area of EHS
  • Recognize and be able to integrate principle Continuous Improvement (Lean/CI) concepts into EHS and vice-versa

Other Important Details about the Role:

  • Perform basic management system troubleshooting and basic safety management system set up and user configuration for supported sites
  • Monitor EHS task assignment with the goal of reducing individual site administrative burden through the continuous improvement process
  • Ensure prompt scheduling of root-cause analysis reports from incident investigations
  • Support the development and maintaining of risk assessments at the location to identify critical EHS hazards and opportunities for safety improvements for jobs/tasks

Job Requirements

To be successful in this position, the candidate must have:

  • Preferred Bachelor’s with 5+ years of relevant experience or Associates Degree with 7+ years relevant experience or 9+ years of relevant experience
  • Must have a broad, technical background with strong analytical skills and business acumen
  • Demonstrated environmental, health and safety management success in a manufacturing environment with an emphasis on program implementation and training
  • The ability to work in a cooperative manner and communicate effectively in a positive manner with all levels of the organization
  • The ability to read, interpret and develop safety policies, procedures, training materials and standard operating instructions and procedural manuals
  • Ability to travel approximately 10-15%
  • Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
