Celebrate and Nominate Heroes
With the 10 year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks upon us, we are reminded of the importance of everyone working in safety and what an important role safety pros played in saving lives at the attack sites. The lessons provided by the safety pros in evacuation measures saved many lives. These people were everyday heroes.
You have learned from everyday heroes. Think of the many safety rules you have learned in your childhood, your teen years and as an adult. Someone along the way taught you those rules and the importance of safety. Safety guidelines, like wearing your helmet while biking and looking both ways before crossing the street are just two examples of safety rules that have become a habit.
We forget how important these small lessons are, but they can make the difference between life and death.
Though they are not often recognized, there are many heroes in America, and right here in Omaha, who quietly do small things that make a significant impact on safety. To honor these individuals, the National Safety Council, Greater Omaha Chapter (NSC) introduces the Everyday Hero Award.
NSC invites Omaha residents to nominate their friends, neighbors, coworkers, anyone whom they believe has made an impact on the safety.
Nominations for individuals will be accepted from June 1 to July 20, 2011. Five finalists will be announced on August 1. From August 1 to August 30, these finalists will be featured on the NSC website, SafeNebraska.org. During that period the public can vote for the hero they believe has made the greatest impact. On Sunday, September 11, the finalists will be honored, and the Everyday Hero Award recipient will be announced. There is a $500 cash prize for the winner.
Please help us find and recognize these Every Heroes.
To nominate your hero, write 400 words or less about how your hero has made a difference.
