OSHA Recordkeeping Rule Update

May 23, 2016

The newest recordkeeping update requires employers to electronically submit their OSHA 300A form (Summary of Injuries and Illnesses) to OSHA which will eventually be made public.

The final rule becomes effective January 1st 2017.  A phase in period has been established by OSHA and affected employers will be required to post their 300As by July 1st 2017.

By allowing the public to see your safety records OSHA believes companies will be encouraged to strengthen their safety programs, ultimately making the workplace safer for employees as required by the OSH Act of 1970.

There is an anti-retaliation provision with this update that becomes effective August 10th 2016.  Employers are required to educate employees on reporting unsafe working conditions without fear of retaliation.  The discouragement of reporting by employers is strictly prohibited.

For any questions concerning this update please contact the National Safety Council Nebraska.
