Unintentional injuries are the most common cause of fatality for individuals ages one to 39 and the fith overall cause of death.
To succeed in reducing these injuries and fatalities, the National Safety Council, Nebraska encourages individuals and organizations to engage in education and programs for the prevention of unintentional injuries and the safety of others. It takes everyone's efforts to promote safe living in our homes and communities. Safe Community Champions awards are open to all those who are contributing their efforts in safety to the betterment of Nebraska. Nominations are made by members of the community and judged by NSCN staff, board and committee members.
NSCN recognizes five organizations or individuals each year in the following categories:
OPPD Service to Community Safety
MUD Safety Off-the-Job and Wellness Award
National Safety Council Public Service Award
Lorraine Giles School Safety Award
Safe Communities America Award
Awards are presented at the Opening Ceremony at the Safety and Health Summit presented by National Safety Council, Nebraska at 8:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at the Embassy Suites LaVista, NE.
