Best Flood Travel Route:  Omaha to Kansas City - Passenger Vehicles.  Commercial Vehicles should consult the DOT for legal and safe alternate routes.

I-29 is currently closed from Iowa Exit 24 to Missouri Exit 110. 

All bridges across the Missouri River between Bellevue and St. Joesph are closed.

Leave Omaha on 144th Street southbound (Highway 50, I-80 Exit 440).

Take Highway 50 south to Syracuse, NE.  Turn East on Highway 2.

Take Highway 2 East to Nebraska City and turn right onto Highway 75 South.

Follow Highway 75 South to Auburn, NE.  Continue south on Highway 75/73.  Turn left onto Highway 73 when it separates from Highway 75.

Continue East/South on Highway 73 through Falls City, NE and onto Hiawatha, KS.

In Hiawatha, KS turn East on Highway 36.  Take Highway 36 East. 

Choice:  At Troy, KS take Kansas 7 (K-7) south through Atichson and Leavenworth to Kansas City OR Continue East on Highway 36 to St. Joseph, MO, and pickup I-29 South to Kansas City.  Time is about the same.

Total mileage - about 220 miles.  Total time - about 4 1/2 to 5 hours one way.

OR

Take I-29 South to exit 35 - Glenwood.  Take Highway 34 West to Highway 59 South.  You'll rejoin I-29 in Missouri -- about 20 miles south of Rockport, MO.

Best Flood Travel Route: Omaha to Sioux City, IA - Passenger Vehicles.  Commercial Vehicles should consult the DOT for legal and safe alternate routes.   

Towing a trailer?  Keep in mind there is a 12 foot 5 inch bridge on Highway 192 just south of Missouri Valley -- don't use this route!

I-29 is currently closed from I-680 Exit 71 (2 miles south of  Missouri Valley) to Exit 54 in Council Bluffs, IA, and I-29 North only is closed between exit 105 and Exit 112.

The bridges at Decatur/ Onawa are closed. 

Take West Dodge Road towards Fremont.  Stay on the main road as it becomes Link 28B and then Highway 275.  At Fremont, turn off, and follow Highway 275 North to Norfolk.  About 10 miles beyond Fremont, bear right onto Hwy 77 North.  At Winnebago, pick up Highway 75/77 North at the circle.  Highway 77 will take you directly through South Sioux City, NE and into Sioux City, IA.

OR

Take I-680 north / east to Highway 75.  Take Highway 75 north until it meets with Highway 77 in Winnebago, then continue north to Sioux City

 

Time and mileage for both routes is about 2 hours from downtown Omaha to downtown Sioux City, and about 110 miles.
